In 1972 President Nixon paved the road between two countries with his historic visit to China. Nixon’s visit to China set the precedent of a new chapter within the global landscape and it was a step towards normalizing relations. In 1979, the US-Sino diplomatic relationship was formally established and in the 40 years that followed, there has been historic progress and development.

Mr. John Gong hosted a banquet at the Richard Nixon Library & Museum on December 15th, 2019 to honor the 40th year of the US-Sino relationship. Prestigious guests included Chinese Ambassador Zhang Ping, Steven Rockefeller (the fifth generation of the Rockefeller family), Cristian Rockefeller (the sixth generation of the Rockefeller family), Donald Nixon (President Nixon’s Nephew), Devon Nixon (President Nixon’s grandnephew), Lily Chen (the founding president of "Committee 100" and the first Asian American woman mayor in the US), Dianne Davis (the founding president of the "International Council for Caring Communities in United Nations"), Master Fo Tao (the successor of calligraphic prodigy Wang Xizhi (王羲之)), Kin Kui (Co-Chair of the 2020 Rose Parade), Kenny Kao (Mayor of Palos Verdes Estates), Peggy Huang (Mayor of Yorba Linda), Peter Chan (Mayor of Monterey Park), Henry Yee (Director of Orange County), and Jimmy Wu (Director of Los Angeles County), just to name a few.

Inspiring speeches were held during the banquet by the Chinese Ambassador Zhang Ping, Steven Rockefeller, Devon Nixon, Lily Chen, Dianne Davis, and Master Fo Tao. They reflected the historic event and the development it has caused in the last 40 years. Mr. Gong was motivated by the outcome of guests and the memories created during the event. It was truly a night for all to remember and honor an amazing turn of event that President Richard Nixon took 40 years ago. It was a night to celebrate the step to normalizing relations between two great nations.
